Introduction Main Page

Over the years, I have built quite a few electronics projects. Some boring, some pretty neat (to me, anyway). Since my ISP provides 5 Mb of disk space for a web page, I figured I might as well sit down and write about some of them.

The first thing you need to know about me is: I'm cheap. In nearly every case, I could have gone out and bought something to do the job, but that would cost money. The second thing you should know is, I like doing this stuff. I like going to surplus stores and buying "junk" and turning it into something fun. Of course, the junk costs money too, but . . . uh, what was I saying?

Anyway, so when everyone else was buying the new so-called "PCs" and throwing out their old CP/M stuff, I was grabbing all that old CP/M stuff, (usually free) and having a ball with it. By building my own, say, logic analyzer, I learned a lot more about logic analyzers than if I just went out and bought one.

People have asked me if I could post schematics for these projects on the web page. Unless someone just has to have one, I probably won't, for a couple of reasons. First of all, most were either hand-drawn, or drawn using old CAD packages that I'm not even sure I still have any more. Secondly, if you wanted to build a similar project, there are more modern chips out there these days that you could use to make things a lot simpler. Besides, the point is to use whatever is on hand, and your surplus stores may not have the same junk as mine do.

I did all the pictures you see here, using my camcorder, a Snappy, and my inadequate lighting skills. Web pages developed with high tech HTML package called NOTEPAD. (See, I'm still cheap, but I am learning about HTML).

If anybody out there needs any 8" floppy disks, I've got plenty! They're yours for the price of shipping.
